Choosing a wide format scanner can be difficult. You want something effective that fulfills all of your scanning needs, makes your business more efficient, and is going to be beneficial for years to come.
Efficiency
When it comes to large format scanners, they are usually used for large documents, or for documents that need to be scanned in high resolution. They need to be fast, easy to use, and easy to fix, especially if your business’s livelihood has to do with being able to replicate and manage documents. There are very few extremely fast and easy to fix large format scanners. It’s all about where you look. Remember that any scanner you purchase should also carry a warranty. If it doesn’t, something is seriously wrong and you should not purchase said brands of large format scanners. Even refurbished scanners (rebuilt scanners, or floor models, or returned scanners that are being resold) have a warranty.
Quality and Function
The scanner you choose needs to be able to accommodate any size document, and almost any thickness document. They should be able to scan these documents fast, without any resolution issues, and should, as stated under the sub-heading “Efficiency,” be quick and easy to fix. In a busy office, business, or school, you simply don’t have the time for a scanner to be down. There’s always something that needs to be scanned and something that has a deadline. If you wait weeks in order for a tech to come fix your scanner and it takes hours, you could end up losing dozens of clients or business associates in that time. It just isn’t plausible.

For someone who’s in need of an affordable scanner, refurbished scanners are perfect. They may not seem like much, but they’re actually no different than an expensive, brand-new scanner. They function just as well, are still covered under warranty, and cost up to 80% less than your average scanner.
Price
The price of refurbished scanners can’t be beat. You may think that it’s better to just buy the brand new scanner and save yourself from having to buy a new one just a few months later. But, despite having such a low cost, they’re actually just as good as a brand new scanner. They aren’t damaged or messed up—they’re pretty much the same thing as your brand new one.
What’s the Difference between Refurbished Scanners and Brand New Ones?
There are a few differences between refurbished scanners and new ones, however. Even though they both work just fine, a “refurb” scanner gets its name for a reason, and not always the one you’d think.
These scanners are considered refurbs either because they were returned (Not always due to being broken or because it isn’t scanning correctly—maybe the former owner just decided they wanted a pink-colored scanner instead of the purple one. You never know.) and were repackaged for resale, because they were used as floor models and exposed to hundreds of customers, or because they were damaged and were sent back so that they could be fixed sent out into the market. Refurbished scanners are fixed using quality parts, so that whatever was wrong with it won’t happen again (abuse and normal wearing out aside.).
